Train wedding dresses

Train wedding dresses

Train – an extra length of fabric that extends from the back of your wedding dress and trails behind you as you walk.

The fashion for the train has come to us since the time of Queen Victoria, who in 1840 initiated a real revolution. Then the train was considered an element of wealth and luxury. Now this is one of the attributes of a wedding look for a bride who wants to emphasize good taste.

Pros and cons

By choosing a dress with a train, you get the following benefits:

  • stunning wedding photos that will never go out of style – imagine how beautiful the train lies behind your back, goes down the stairs or flutters in the wind;
  • for convenience, many models of dresses have a loop that is put on the finger and allows you to hold the train if necessary;
  • it can also be unfastened – for example, a beautiful walk during the official ceremony and removed in the final part, before dinner;
  • the train makes the wedding look truly solemn, it visually lengthens the figure, highlights the advantages and emphasizes the unique style that your guests will remember for a long time;
  • and finally – you will never wear a dress with a train in everyday life, so a wedding is that very special occasion!

Now a few words about the shortcomings. There are not many of them: the train can quickly get dirty (this is not a problem if you move by car), you have to constantly think about it and straighten it, you can catch on something and even tear it. There is a risk that the groom and guests will often step on the train.

Types of wedding trains

The train is usually distinguished by the method of fastening and length.

According to the method of fastening, the trains are solid, prefabricated and removable.

One-piece train has no fasteners and is a continuation of the skirt, does not separate from it. It is the most convenient for the bride to move around in it. The combined train is attached to the dress in one of two ways: to the inside of the skirt or along the waist line. The attachment point can be closed with embroidery, drapery, appliqué. A removable train is used when sewing a transformer dress.

Most often, this is a long overlay that falls along the dress. It can be unfastened or fastened at the right moment.

There are four types of plumes in length. The sweeping plume is a few centimeters longer than the skirt and barely touches the floor. The length of the chapel train is from 1 to 1.5 meters. It is easy to fix it on the hem of the dress with a pin. The cathedral plume is 2.5 meters long. During the wedding ceremony, children often carry it behind the bride. The royal train means a length of more than 2.5 meters and is made of tulle, chiffon.

How is the train attached to the dress?

● over the skirt – the most popular option, in which the train is fixed at the waistline, and sometimes connected to the belt;

● under the skirt – the train is attached under the lower hem of the skirt;

● in the form of a cape – outwardly, the train resembles a raincoat, which begins at the top of the dress: on the back or fastened to the straps;

● upper bustle – the train is fixed with buttons;

● lower bustle – the train is attached to the pleats on the seamy side of the skirt, which are pre-assembled in the form of ribbons or other decor.

What else to pay attention to?

Firstly, the style and format of the wedding. The more luxurious you are planning a celebration, the longer the dress train should be. For example, a classic lace version is suitable for a vintage-style wedding, and a light short train will fit perfectly into the Boho style.

Secondly, the duration of the wedding. If the holiday lasts all day, many dances and competitions are planned, a long train is not the best option. It is better to opt for a simpler option.

Third, the season. For late spring and summer, it is better to choose a train of light airy fabrics so that it is not hot. A short train is suitable for autumn – it will not get dirty if the weather on the wedding day turns out to be unpredictable. In winter, you can focus on a long train made of dense material.

Fourth, compatibility with the groom’s look. The wedding dress should be in harmony with the overall concept of the celebration. For example, next to the bride in a luxurious classic dress with a train, the groom in a strict and stylish suit, and not in the casual look, will look well.

Dresses with a train are popular at all times. You can’t imagine a better occasion to try on a royal outfit than a wedding!
