Short wedding dresses

The stereotype that the bride should marry in a long wedding dress has long been dispelled. Today, ultra-short minis, light romantic dresses for spring and summer, babydoll style models are in fashion – whatever option you choose, you will look gorgeous in it!

When should you choose a short dress?

● as a second look, for a photo shoot or for dancing;

● if you are getting married for the second time and you have already worn a long dress;

● when you want to focus on slender legs;

● for a modest or closed painting in the circle of close friends;

● for a wedding in nature, as well as in the open air.

Types of short dresses

Retro style of the 40s-60s is a classic of short dresses. They have a puffy layered mid-length skirt, open back or neckline to choose from. The priority is a wide belt, comfortable pumps, a high hairstyle. It is better to abandon the ordinary veil, replacing it with a delicate one. Silk or satin is suitable as a material for sewing.

The sheath dress fits the figure, is made of thick fabric and is appropriate in the framework of the business style. Recently, more and more often in wedding collections, such an outfit is presented in a lingerie look. An ideal choice for brides who want to bring something unusual, unique to the classics. The length of the sheath dress can be different – up to the knee or three quarters, and the sleeve – short, long or with thin straps.

The next option is a tulip dress. In this model, the silhouette of the skirt resembles an inverted tulip bud – it expands towards the hips and tapers towards the bottom. The bodice can be anything, but, as a rule, it is tight-fitting or wrap-around. The length of the outfit varies from mini to midi. The skirt can be decorated with drapery.

With the right cut, mini wedding dresses look both sexy and restrained. The main rule – the shorter the skirt, the more closed the top should be. Balance the look with long sleeves, cover the shoulders with a fabric, shawl or bolero, and avoid transparent inserts on the dress. The beauty of your neck will emphasize the V-shaped collar. Give preference to embroidery or trim decorated with rhinestones, as well as pearls.

A short dress with a plume is a choice for brides who want to emphasize the solemnity of the event and show off their beautiful legs at the same time. In this version, the front part remains short (mini, knee-length), and the back of the skirt goes into an elongated plume. Transformer dresses are very popular. You can come to the wedding ceremony with a beautiful long plume, and in the evening, during a banquet, unfasten it.

Short dresses with full skirts. A voluminous skirt made of light (preferably multi-layered) material will emphasize the silhouette favorably. This option looks spectacular with bare shoulders and a corset bodice. The outfit can be supplemented with a thin belt, short gloves and a collar. All kinds of bows, ruffles, ribbons, pearls are used. This category also includes baby doll dresses. The airy skirt turns the bride into a real doll.

Unusual short dresses. Feel free to experiment! Add decorative elements to your look: bows, voluminous flowers, inserts at the waist, large patterns, embroidery, lace, pleated or drapery. Play with color – in 2023, pink, lilac, beige and milk colors remain trendy shades. Bet on a transparent multi-layer texture.

Advantages and disadvantages

What are the benefits of short wedding dresses?

  • lightness of the material – light fabrics such as chiffon, tulle, organza, satin are mainly used for their tailoring;
  • convenience and comfort – the short skirt does not hinder movement, allows you to move freely, dance, pay attention to guests;
  • cleanliness – the dress hem usually collects dust and small debris from the floor – but your look will remain impeccable all day long;
  • uniqueness – depending on the model, a short dress will help to focus on different parts of the body – a thin waist, slender legs;
  • practicality – the outfit can be worn after the wedding, in everyday life (even if minimal modifications are required);
  • savings – a short dress will cost you much less than a dress with a lot of decorative elements.

As for the disadvantages, there are not many. A short dress can be simple, not formal enough, or simply not suitable for the weather – if you have planned a wedding for late autumn and winter, give preference to a long dress made of dense fabric.

Not everyone likes the classic look with a puffy floor-length dress for a wedding – and that’s fine. The abundance of models and styles in the mini length will allow you to find the wedding dress that will win your heart!
