The silhouette of a fish (or “godet”, “mermaid”) is one of the most feminine options for a wedding dress. It differs from other styles because its upper part tightly fits the figure to the knees, and the lower part is a skirt that expands downwards. Due to this, outwardly the skirt resembles the tail of a mermaid or a fish and is the main decorative element the bride focuses on.

The silhouette of a fish was first invented at the end of the 19th century, but it received its well-deserved popularity in the 20th century, thanks to Madeleine Vionnat. The 1931 Vogue magazine featured her bridal look in the form of an antique statue. The girls liked the style so much that it “displaced” the “column” skirt, which was familiar to that time.
Later, the picture inspired such famous fashion designers as John Galliano and Christian Dior to create a lineup.
