Corset wedding dress: pros and cons

Corset wedding dress: pros and cons

The traditional corset wedding dress has become more and more popular in recent years. This detail gives the bride a special grace: it successfully emphasizes the advantages of the figure, visually keeps the posture and reduces the waist size. In addition, you will feel like at least a court lady.

Best corset styles

A corset is a construction with small sewn-in plates (mostly metal) that create a beautiful silhouette.

Corset wedding dresses are suitable for girls with any type of figure. The main thing is to take into account the features of the silhouette. The corset looks good with the following styles: “Princess”, “Mermaid” or “Gode”, a short wedding dress, a dress with a straight silhouette and A-line, as well as a dress with a train.

Don’t buy a corset dress if you’re pregnant. It will also be inappropriate if there is a wide belt (for example, in empire dresses, Greek style). In this case, the waist line is deliberately shifted upwards, and it makes no sense to emphasize it.

What types of corsets are there?

  1. The classic corset is a high version of the corset that covers the bust. It gives maximum tightening, thanks to which the figure takes the form of an hourglass. It is combined with a classic or fluffy skirt.
  2. Under bust corset. This type of corset begins just under the breasts. Its task is to raise the bust, reduce the waist and “unload” the back.
  3. An understated corset allows you to simulate almost the entire silhouette. Its length varies and can reach the hip line. As a rule, it is fixed at the back with lacing or has a special busk fastener.
  4. Designers complement the lace corset with beads, pearls, braid. This type is successfully complemented by lace accessories: a veil, gloves, or a handbag.
  5. A transparent corset involves a bodice made of thin guipure or organza and is suitable for a summer wedding. It is decorated with sequins, stones, sparkles, appliqués – due to this, you can vary the degree of transparency of the bodice.
  6. Embroidered corset. Among the most popular options is a corset embroidered with rhinestones, pearls, and embroidery. The pattern may change from season to season, but has not gone out of fashion for a long time, and just consolidates its position.
  7. A corset sewn into a skirt does not have a rigid frame and can be made of both thick and thin fabric. The main advantage here is good fixation – the corset will not twist, but will remain in place throughout the day.

Lace up wedding corset

The wedding dress corset has open or hidden lacing – it all depends on the model. The first option can be a “highlight” of the image, the second option looks more elegant. In both cases, lacing is the same – from top to bottom. First, the chest area is tightened, then the waist. A bow is tied below. At the same time, folds should not form on the skin.

Think in advance who will lace the corset in the morning. Specialists (make-up artist, hairdresser) do not always have free time, so it is better if it is your mother, sister or friend. Ideally, two people would do this: one would hold the halves of the corset, and the second would put on the laces in the loop and tighten them. And don’t miss the moment to take a photo – they turn out to be very touching.

As laces, you can choose strong silk laces, ribbons, strips of satin fabric. Their length reaches several meters. If desired, the lacing can be replaced with small buttons, hooks, and a zipper, which also looks impressive.

Recommendations for choosing a corset

When choosing a corset, remember the following important points.

First, take into account the preferences and style of the wedding. The dress should be in harmony with other elements. For example, an elegant corset with a fluffy skirt will organically fit into a wedding style close to the classic one. In turn, a country-style holiday is not quite the right backdrop for such an outfit.

Secondly, a wedding dress corset should be chosen precisely in size. If it presses, causes discomfort, restricts movement, etc., your mood can be spoiled. And, on the contrary, if it is large, it will not work to lace it up.

Thirdly, pay attention to accessories. A headdress will look good under a closed-type corset: a hat, a veil, a silk scarf. An open corset should be decorated with massive jewelry: a necklace and earrings.

A corset is an unchanging classic that is in any wedding collection. Don’t miss the chance to make your dress truly memorable!
